Naturbad Sulz in Lahr, Baden-Württemberg, (D)
Das Schwimmbad Sulz (Gemeinde Lahr) wurde ursprünglich 1936 erbaut. In unmittelbarer Nähe am Waldrand gelegen war es beliebt bei Alt und Jung, nicht nur wegen seiner schönen Lage, sondern auch als erste öffentliche Badeanstalt in der ganzen Umgebung. 1971 wurde es grundlegend saniert und auf den neuesten Stand der Technik gebracht. Als zwanzig Jahre später festgestellt wurde, dass durch undichte Rohrleitungen Chlor, in den nahegelegenen Sulzbach gelangte, musste man das Bad im Jahre 1991 schließen. Das wollten die Bürger von Sulz nicht hinnehmen. Sie gründeten einen Badeverein, mit der Idee in Sulz ein Naturschwimmbad zu errichten. Bei Verhandlungen mit den politischen Entscheidungsträgern der Stadt Lahr versprach man bei der Gelegenheit auch, den Bau eines Naturbades mit möglichst viel Eigenleistung zu unterstützen. Außerdem verpflichtete sich der Verein dazu, das Bad nach der Sanierung weiter in Eigenverantwortung zu betreiben. Dem Vorschlag wurde stattgegeben. Die Sanierung begann: Der alte Betonplattenbelag der Becken wurde entsorgt. Im Juli 2002 rollten die Bagger an und im Mai 2003 konnte das Naturbad Sulz eröffnet werden. Mit einer Gesamtwasserfläche von etwa 1.850 m² ist die Anlage, die in einen wasserreinigenden Regenerationsbereich, sowie in verschiedene Schwimmzonen unterteilt ist, ganz seiner natürlichen Umgebung angepasst. Dichte Pflanzengürtel und feine Kiesstrände trennen Kleinkinder- Schwimm- und Nichtschwimmerzonen voneinander. Miteinander verbundene Holzstege sorgen dafür, dass die Badegäste bequem von einem zum anderen Bereich wechseln können. Was die vergangene Badesaison schon gezeigt hat: Das Engagement des Bürgervereins hat sich gelohnt, die Badegäste kommen wie anno dazumal von nah und fern.
Das Naturbad wurde als ökologisches Vorzeigeprojekt mit dem NABU-Preis “Natur in der Stadt” ausgezeichnet.

The Sulz swimming pool (municipality of Lahr) was originally built in 1936. Situated in the immediate vicinity on the edge of the forest, it was popular with young and old, not only because of its beautiful location, but also as the first public bathing facility in the entire area. In 1971, it was renovated and brought up to the state of the art. Twenty years later, when it was discovered that leaking pipes were leaking chlorine into the nearby Sulzbach, the baths had to be closed in 1991. The citizens of Sulz were not prepared to accept this. They founded a bathing association with the idea of building a natural swimming pool in Sulz. During negotiations with the political decision-makers of the city of Lahr, they also promised to support the construction of a natural swimming pool with as much of their own contribution as possible. In addition, the association committed itself to continuing to operate the pool on its own responsibility after the renovation. The proposal was accepted. The renovation began: The old concrete slab covering of the pools was removed. In July 2002, the excavators rolled in and in May 2003, the Sulz natural swimming pool was opened. With a total water surface of about 1,850 m², the facility, which is divided into a water-purifying regeneration area and various swimming zones, is completely adapted to its natural environment. Dense plant belts and fine gravel beaches separate swimming and non-swimmers' zones. Wooden decks and bridges ensure that bathers can easily move from one area to the other. What the first bathing seasons have already shown: The commitment of the citizens' association has paid off. The bathers come from near and far, just like in the old days.
The natural swimming pool was awarded the NABU prize "Nature in the City" as an ecological showcase project.
